Advantages

The department of Electronics & Communications Engineering was started in the year 2004. The Department has well qualified and experienced faculty members. We have intake of 60 students. Our department is accredited to VTU and AICTE. It has state of art laboratories such as VLSI Lab with Cadence EDA Tool, Digital System Design Lab, Digital Signal Processing Lab, Advanced Communication Lab and Research Lab. Electronic communications engineers conceptualize, design, test and oversee the manufacturing of communications and broadcast systems. They mainly work to integrate electronics and communications into any system they develop. These professionals might work for commercial, industrial, military or scientific companies. Examples of potential job titles include design engineer, electronics engineer and electrical design engineer. An electronic engineering degree program concentrates on semiconductor devices, transistors, microprocessors and circuit design.

The programs offered by the department are the most sought after ones by Common Entrance Test (conducted by Karnataka Examination Authority) top rank holders and other aspirants from across the country. All the three programs are outcome based, structured to meet the needs of Industry and Research. The program contents are upgraded with the involvement of industry and reputed research institutions. 

Academics at UG level is sustained with a staff to student ratio of 1:15. The curriculum includes a strong self-study component, mini & major projects so as to develop the students’ independent analytical abilities. To support research across the specializations, an excellent infrastructure comprising of Software tools for Materials, devices and Circuits, Software Simulation Environment .

Two-Day Workshop on Analog Design Using Cadence

The Department of E&C Engineering, Moodlakatte Institute of Technology, organized a two-day workshop on “Analog Design Using Cadence in collaboration with Karmic Design Pvt. Ltd., Manipal, on 4th and 5th May 2026. The workshop provided students with practical exposure to analog circuit design using Cadence tools, helping them develop industry-relevant skills and gain hands-on experience in VLSI and analog IC design.

Universal Human Values: Towards a Meaningful Life

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Moodlakatte Institute of Technology, organized a session on “Universal Human Values: A Roadmap to Holistic Living” on 1st April 2026. The session was led by Dr. Prathibha M. Patel, Principal, IMJISC, and focused on the importance of human values, harmony, ethical living, and holistic well-being, encouraging students to develop a balanced and meaningful approach to life.

Presenting the Unseen Kalam: Inspiring Minds for a Better Tomorrow

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), Moodlakatte Institute of Technology and Computer Science Engineering (CSE), organized an inspiring session titled Empowering Minds for a Better Tomorrow – Presenting the Unseen Kalam.” The objective of the program was to motivate students by sharing the life lessons, leadership values, and vision of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. The session aimed to instill confidence, leadership qualities, and a sense of purpose among students, encouraging them to contribute positively to society and their professional careers.

Hands-on Workshop on PCB Design and Development

The Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering at Moodlakatte Institute of Technology conducted a three-day workshop on PCB Design from 25 to 27 November 2025. The workshop provided hands-on training in circuit design, PCB layout using KiCad, Gerber file generation, routing techniques, and design verification. It offered students valuable practical exposure to real-world PCB development and fabrication processes.

Inauguration Ceremony of the ECE Students’ Forum

The inauguration of the ECE Students’ Forum marked a significant milestone for the ECE department, establishing a platform designed to empower students, enrich their technical knowledge, and inspire future innovation. This successful event has laid a strong foundation for continued academic and professional growth within the ECE community, ensuring that students remain ahead in an ever-evolving technological landscape.The inauguration ceremony was graced by the presence of the Principal, Vice Principal, and the Dean Placement and Training and Department HoD.

Industry Collaboration with Kakunje Software Pvt. Ltd.

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering of Moodlakatte Institute of Technology signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kakunje Software Private Limited on 14 October 2025 to strengthen industry-oriented learning and skill development. The collaboration aims to provide students with practical industry exposure, expert mentorship, and opportunities to work with emerging technologies in IT consulting, research, and enterprise solutions. Faculty Development Programme on Manuscript Structure and Technical Writing

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering conducted a Faculty Development Programme (FDP) commenced on 23 July 2025 with the distinguished presence of Dr. Tanweer Ali and Dr. Manjunath K.N. The session focused on the topic “Manuscript Structure and Technical Writing”, where he highlighted the importance of structured research writing using the IMRaD format (Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion), providing valuable guidance for academic and research writing.

Career Kickstart: Preparing for Placements

On 10 May 2025, the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) organized a session on “Career Kick start: Preparing for Placements” for ECE students, with 44 students participating in the programme. The session was delivered by Dr. Priya Ananthakrishnan. The programme focused on placement preparation, including technical skills, aptitude training, resume building, and interview strategies. Students gained valuable insights into industry expectations and effective techniques to improve their confidence, communication, and problem-solving abilities for successful campus placements.

Technical Session on IoT Security and Cybersecurity

technical session on IoT Security was conducted for 120 students by Dr. Vidya Rao. The session covered IoT systems, circuit fundamentals, security threats, cryptography, and device-level security techniques. Dr. Rao appreciated the enthusiasm and active participation of the students and faculty during the session. She noted that the audience demonstrated a keen interest in understanding both the theoretical and practical aspects of IoT security. She suggested that students continue exploring hands-on projects in IoT and cybersecurity to strengthen their skills

Research-Oriented Technical Talk on Research Paper Presentation

The Department of ECE organized a one-day research-oriented technical talk on “Research Paper Presentation on 24th February 2025, with Dr. Ram Bilas Pachori, Professor, ECE, MIT Kundapura, as the resource person. The session highlighted the importance of research, research tools, types of research papers, paper drafting, AI tools, plagiarism checking, and standard reference formatting. The interactive session encouraged students to engage with the resource person, clarify their queries, and gain practical insights into effective and ethical research practices.

Workshop on IoT Sensor Analytics & Visualization

The Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering, Moodlakatte Institute of Technology, Kundapura, organized a one-day hands-on workshop on “IoT Sensor Analytics & Visualization Using Python” on 5th August 2026. The workshop was conducted by Dr. Poornalatha G, Deputy Director – Research, MIT Manipal, and provided students with practical exposure to IoT sensor data analysis, processing, and visualization using Python, enhancing their understanding of real-world IoT applications and data-driven technologies

Industrial visit to ECE students

The Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) department organized an industrial visit to ECE students on 02/12/24 to Brevera Technologies, Mysore, and an ISO 9001:2015 certified Original Design Manufacturer specializing in electronic design and manufacturing. Brevera’s expertise spans hardware, embedded software, and IoT solutions across industrial, automotive, and consumer electronics.

Eminence – Students Forum

The Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) department started activities of Students Forum, “Eminence” on 16th October 2024, to foster collaboration and innovation among students. The event featured a technical talk by Dr. Pallavi R. Mane on the future of electronics, semiconductors, and communication, inspiring attendees with insights into the fields’ potential.

Five-day Faculty Development Program (FDP)

The Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) department of Moodlakatte Institute of Technology, Kundapura, organized a five-day Faculty Development Program (FDP) from September 2nd to 6th, 2024. This program aimed to enhance faculty skills and knowledge in modern teaching methodologies, research advancements, and industry collaboration.

COMPETITION

Students won “Best Futuristic Technology Award”

Students of Moodlakatte Institute of Technology, Mr. Amar C Balaganv and Mr. Vishnumoorthy Nayak, won the “Best Futuristic Technology Award” for their project titled ‘Automatic Segregation System for Efficient Solid  Waste Management” in the IFERP National Level student project competition held at SRM IST, Ramapuram. They competed with 1000 project entries all over India. This project is guided by Dr. Abdul Kareem, Principal M.I.T Kundapura and mentored by Prof. Varuna Kumara & Prof. Akshatha Naik

Expert Talk on “IEEE Membership and Its Benefits”

The Department of ECE in association with AI&ML and CSE organized an expert talk on “My three decades Journey with IEEE” on 11th February 2023. Dr. Niranjan U.C, Director of Research & Training, Manipal Dot Net Pvt.Ltd and past Chair IEEE-MSS was invited as the resource person. During the session, Resource Person emphasized the advantages of students being associated with reputed International associations like IEEE. He explained how the IEEE helps to build the personality of engineering students and orient them towards Research.

Workshop on VLSI System Design

A hands-on Workshop on *VLSI System Design* was organized by the department of  Electronics and Communication Engineering. Mr. Dilip Mogaveera, Director, KarMic Design Pvt. Ltd. and Mr.Rizwan Roshan, Program Manager, Cyient Semi-conductor, were the resource persons to conduct the workshop.

Student Achievements

Anil Kumar,Ramya AK,Pratap Shetty,Mohan Kumar,Priyanka,Vaishnavi participated in IICDC-2018 Contest organized jointly by Texas Instrument and MHRD Govt of India.   The students have entered into a quarter finals league and got prototypes ready for the next stage of contest. We are delighted to announce that our students are a part of 346 shortlisted team out of 10,146 teams from all the State of India.   Our students Joycelita Dias,Pooja, Usha S, and Shrinidhi Dixit won second prize in the IEEE project competition held at SCEM Mangalore.

i. Mr. Varuna Kumara awarded Ph.D for his research thesis titled “A Robust Self-Organizing Fuzzy Sliding Mode Controller with JAYA Optimization for Wastewater Treatment”  in Oct ‘2025.

Sushma Shedthi A, representing Moodlakatte Institute of Technology, Kundapura, participated and presented a paper titled “Advanced Deep Learning Model for Breast Cancer Detection via Thermographic Imaging” at the 2024 IEEE International Conference on Distributed Computing, VLSI, Electrical Circuits and Robotics (2024 IEEE DISCOVER – Conference Record #62353). The conference was organized by the IEEE Mangalore Subsection and hosted at St Joseph Engineering College, Mangaluru, Karnataka from October 18 to 19, 2024. The paper was co-authored alongside Melwin D Souza, Varuna Kumara, Rohan Don Salins, Dr. J. Jeya A Celin, Sookshma Adiga, and Sushma Shedthi.

Dr. Vishwanath Shervegar has been granted to the patentee for an invention entitled “Optical Sensing Device for Cardiac Auscultation”.

It is proud to announce that our Final year student Ms.Geethanjali was chief guest in Shubham Karoti Maitreyi Gurukula Independence Day celebration on 15th August 2026.

Geetanjali Chouagala, a final year Electronics and Communication Engineering student of Moodlakatte Institute of Technology  Kundapura has recently achieved a remarkable milestone in the field of space science and human spaceflight.

She was selected as one of only four female analog astronauts from across India to participate in India’s first-ever 6° Head-Down Bed Rest Simulation Study, conducted by the Institute of Aerospace Medicine (Indian Air Force) in collaboration with ISRO.

As part of the study, she successfully completed seven continuous days under a strict 6° head-down bed-rest protocol, contributing to research aimed at understanding how the human body adapts to simulated microgravity and supporting research for future human spaceflight missions.

During the study, she had the honour of interacting with Indian astronaut Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, Angad Pratap, Prashant Balakrishnan, eminent scientists, senior Indian Air Force commanders, and several distinguished personalities from India’s space and aerospace community. Upon successfully completing the study, she received her certificate from Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, Angad Pratap, and senior Indian Air Force commanders.

Following this achievement, she further represented MITK as a delegate at the IEEE Space Conference, where she had the opportunity to interact with international CEOs, scientists, researchers, and leading space-industry experts from around the world. The conference provided her with valuable exposure to global developments, research, innovation, and emerging opportunities in the space sector.

These experiences mark significant milestones in her journey toward a career in space research, astronautics, and human spaceflight, bringing recognition to both herself and her institution.

Student Paper Publication

  1. The research paper titled “An IoT-Enabled Vision-Aid for the Blind Integrating Ultrasonic Obstacle Detection and GPS-Based Location Tracking”, authored by MITK ECE 2025 passout students Ashwini, N K Vaishnavi, Ruchitha Kamath S, and Trapthi, has been accepted for publication in the Scopus-indexed International Journal of Reconfigurable and Embedded Systems (IJRES) under the guidance of Mr.Varuna Kumara and Mrs.AKshatha Naik.
  2. MITK ECE 2025 passout students Ms. Fathima Tahsir, Ms. Vinita Naik, and Ms. Sinchana published a research article titled “IoT-enabled smart hydroponic system using nutrient film technique for precision agriculture” in the International Journal of Informatics and Communication Technology (a Q4 Scopus Indexed Journal) under the guidance of Dr. Varuna Kumara and Prof. Akshtha Naik.

NAIN 2.0 Student Projects – 2026–27

Our students’ projects got selected under NAIN 2.0 – New Age Innovation Network 2.0, an initiative supported by the Government of Karnataka to promote innovation, entrepreneurship, and technology-based solutions among students. The details as follows:

  1. NeuroGuard AI
    NeuroGuard AI is an innovative wearable device that uses AI and EEG signals to detect seizures in real time and send immediate alerts. The project is led by Suman, with team members Varsha, Prajna, and Aishwarya, under the guidance of Dr. Varuna Kumar and Mr. Balanageshwar S. The proposed grant for the project is ₹4,21,720.
  2. Green-Grow
    Green-Grow is a smart hydroponic fodder-growing system designed to minimize water usage and eliminate the need for soil. The project is led by Bhargavi B, with team members Prajwal Suresh Kuppelur and Divyashree S, under the guidance of Mrs. Akshata Naik and Mrs. Sushma Shetty. The proposed grant is ₹4,50,000.
  3. CleanBot AI
    CleanBot AI is an AI-powered autonomous system for detecting and collecting waste, aimed at promoting smart and efficient waste management. The project is led by Akshay, with team members Arpitha, Charan, and Poorvik, under the guidance of Dr. Varuna Kumar and Mrs. Akshatha Naik. The proposed grant is ₹4,50,000.
  4. Smart Wheelchair
    Smart Wheelchair is an assistive technology project that uses brain signals to control a wheelchair, providing enhanced mobility and independence for physically challenged individuals. The project is led by Manvel, with team members Bhoomika, Sanjana, and Rohit, under the guidance of Dr. Mahapurush and Mrs. Sushma Shetty. The proposed grant is ₹3,26,000.

NPTEL Certifications

  1. Our final year student Soujanya completed a 12-week NPTEL course in Advanced Robotics with a final score of 45% during  January–April  2026 session.
  2. Our final year student -Ms. Sangeetha MT successfully completed the online certification course “Principles of Digital Communications” July’25-Oct 25 and secured a consolidated score of 49%.
  3. Our final year student Soujanya earned an Elite NPTEL certification in Electronic Systems Design & Hands-on PCB Design during July’25-Oct 25with 69%.
  4. Our final year student Rithesh Achieved an Elite Silver NPTEL certification in Electronic Systems Design & CAD-based PCB Design during July’25-Oct 25 scoring 78%.
  5. Our final year student  Sudarshan earned an Elite NPTEL certification in Electronic Systems & PCB Design during July’25-Oct 25 with a score of 71%.
  6. Our final year student Vaishnavi  (vaish2.pdf): Successfully completed a 12-week NPTEL course in C-Based VLSI Design scoring 53% during Jul–Sep 2025.
  7. Our  2026 pass out student  T G Sunag has secured the Elite + Silver Certification in the 8-week NPTEL course on System Design Through Verilog conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology (Jul–Sep 2025).
  8. Our 2026 pass out student  Manvith Devadiga has secured the Elite Certification in the 8-week NPTEL course on CMOS Digital VLSI Design conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee.  during the January–March 2025 session.
  9. Our  2026 pass out student Mithun  completed an 8-week NPTEL course in CMOS Digital VLSI Design with a score of 58% during January–March 2025 session
  10. Our  2026 pass out student Mohammed Rihan earned an Elite NPTEL certification in CMOS Digital VLSI Design with a score of 60% during January–March 2025 session
  11. Our final year student Ms. Vidyashree successfully completed the 12-week NPTEL online certification course “Principles of Communication Systems – I”, offered by IIT Kanpur during the January–April 2025 session

  13. Our  2026 pass out student Madhura successfully completed an 8-week NPTEL certification in CMOS Digital VLSI Design scoring 56% during January–March 2025 session.
  14. Our final year student Vaishnavi Achieved an Elite Silver NPTEL certification in Principles of Communication Systems – I with 75% during January–April  2025.

The ECE department is proud to announce that our students – Manvith Devadiga, Mohamed Shamma, Kiran M, and Karthik Shetty – have successfully published a research paper titled “An Internet of Things based mobile-controlled robot with emergency parking system” in the IAES International Journal of Robotics and Automation (IJRA), Vol. 14, No. 3, September 2025. This research demonstrates how IoT and embedded systems can be combined to design a mobile-controlled robot with advanced safety features, including an emergency parking system, using the ESP32 microcontroller for real-time control, automation, and efficiency.

Our second year ECE student Geetanjali  is selected as one among the 26 Indians to participate in the reputed international conference – Asia Youth International MUN, held in Kuala Lumper, Malaysia. She represented India the UNCTAD council, where she worked on global challenges and presented evidence-based solutions. She had the opportunity to debate with other delegates and engage in discussions guided by high-level professionals, which felt very close to real-world policy and scientific problem-solving. The conference helped her strengthen  analytical thinking, technical presentation, and diplomatic negotiation skills. Beyond the sessions, she also built valuable international connections and exchanged diverse perspectives, which is truly inspiring.

Congratulations to the team Kashvi, Bhoomika and Sanjana, Vidhyashree being in top 6 out of 30 teams in the Ainnovation hackathon held in NITTE.

Message from the Director of Technology Incubator Centre at MIT Kundapura

It is giving me immense pleasure to write about the Technology Business Incubator (TBI) at MITK. With the introduction of Startup India, Standup India and various government schemes, the entrepreneurial environment in the country has become more conducive and favourable to budding entrepreneurs. And to uplift this spirit, the TBI here at MIT Kundapura plays a great role.

TBI is a vibrant place for entrepreneurs, innovators and next-generation thinkers, who are ready to take up challenging problems in society and transform their Ideas around it into viable solutions in terms of products and services, thereby creating jobs and livelihood for people along with following their passion for entrepreneurship.

As a Technology Business Incubator, we have some of the best facilities in the Karavali region to host startups from various Industrial domains such as Tech, Fintech, Agritech, IT, Mechatronics, etc. and mentor and nurture them. we have high-end computing facilities, modern workspace, Library & information centre, 3D printers and other necessary equipment and facilities, training and conference facilities, etc. to name a few. TBI conducts various entrepreneurial sessions, seminars and conferences for startups. It also connects the right industrial mentors which best suited for the budding startups and call for various funding meetups & rounds and pitch deck presentations for getting financial support from government and private investors.
